Me contactaron desde » El rincón de las boquillas» una web que se dedica a entrevistar a artistas murales para a través de sus preguntas poder conocerlos un poco más. Y esta es la entrevista que me hicieron:
PD: He aprovechado para poner esta foto que me hicieron hace un tiempo y que nunca usé antes porque me parecía un poco ridículo o grandilocuente, jajaja. Hay que reírse de uno mismo.
¿De dónde viene tu apodo?
Cuando empecé a pintar fui saltando de apodo / tag muy rápido, intentando encontrar algo que me representara o me gustase, y paralelamente en nuestro grupo de amigos ajenos al graffiti, me iban cambiando mi nombre real casi cada semana, fue algo muy rápido. Me llamo Alejandro aunque todo el mundo me llama Alex, mi apodo pasó, de Alex a Axel, de Axel a Axelon, y de Axelon a Xelon, al final elegí un tag que realmente me representaba, que significa y procede de mi nombre real.
Where does your pseudonyme come from?
When I started to paint I was jumping from one nickname/tag to another very quickly, trying to find something that represented or liked me, and at the same time in our group of friends who were not graffiti artists, my real name was changed almost every week, it was something very fast. My name is Alejandro although everybody calls me Alex, my nickname passed from Alex to Axel, from Axel to Axelon, and from Axelon to Xelon, at the end I chose a tag that really represented me, that means and comes from my real name.
¿Qué te motivó para empezar a pintar?
Siempre he dibujado, en mi familia todos dibujamos, es muy raro, aunque para nosotros es lo normal, no sé qué me motivó, fue algo natural, nos gustaba mucho ver las piezas de otros en la calle y eso fue algo que nos marcó, hasta que nos lanzamos a pintar en la calle, empecé a pintar con mi hermano Deih y con un amigo, Hope (antes End) y pintábamos siempre juntos, y nos motivábamos y retro-alimentábamos entre nosotros, poco a poco fuimos creciendo y mejorando y cada vez quieres hacer mejores piezas y dibujos y eso ya motiva mucho. A mí lo que siempre me ha motivado es la experiencia personal y el aprendizaje que tengo al pintar en la calle, eso es algo que me llevo y que al terminar la pieza, pues ya he vivido ese momento y lo atesoro íntimamente, si me tachan enseguida, no digo que no me moleste, pero ya me he llevado lo que quería de pintar esa pieza, me gusta si duran un poco más pero si pintas en la calle, ya sabes que es así, y no hay que molestarse. Es una de las primeras cosas que aprendí.
What motivated you to get started painting?
I have always drawn, in my family we everybody draw, it is very rare, although for us it is normal, I do not know what motivated me, it was something natural, we liked very much to see the pieces of others in the street and that was something that marked us, until we started to paint in the street, I started to paint with my brother Deih and a friend, Hope (formerly End) and we always painted together, and we motivated each other and fed each other back, little by little we grew and improved and every time you want to make better pieces and drawings and that already motivates a lot. What has always motivated me is the personal experience and learning that I have when I paint in the street, that is something that I take with me and that when I finish the piece, because I have already lived that moment and I treasure it intimately, if I am crossed out right away, I don’t say that I don’t mind, but I have already taken with me what I wanted to paint that piece, I like it if it lasts a little longer but if you paint in the street, you know that it is like that, and you don’t have to bother. It’s one of the first things I learned.
¿Cuál es tu estilo?
Tengo un estilo propio pero me gusta tanto cambiar de herramienta y de estilo gráfico, probar cosas nuevas que a veces pienso que no tengo estilo, sino muchos, retarme es pan de cada día para mí, en muchas ocasiones pienso que la gente igual no me va a reconocer al cambiar tanto, pero siempre me dicen que aunque cambie de técnica y soporte sigue siendo un Xelon y se nota.
Mi estilo es muy cambiante pero se caracteriza porque casi siempre utilizo robots y tecnología como elemento para transmitir mis mensajes e inquietudes.
What is your style?
I have my own style but I like so much to change my tools and my graphic style, to try new things that sometimes I think that I don’t have a style, but many, to challenge myself is a daily bread for me, in many occasions I think that people will not recognize me when I change so much, but they always tell me that even if I change my technique and support it is still a Xelon and it shows.
My style is very changeable but it is characterised by the fact that I almost always use robots and technology as an element to transmit my messages and concerns.
¿Qué piensas de la idea de publicar tus piezas con una entrevista en elrincondelasboquillas.com?
Me parece genial, siempre me gusta mostrarme y explicar algo de mí o de mi obra, eso me acerca al espectador y crea un vínculo más fuerte, e iniciativas como esta me parecen muy positivas.
What do you think about the idea of us publishing your artworks on our web elrincondelasboquillas.com?
I think it’s great, I always like to show and explain something about myself or my work, that brings me closer to the viewer and creates a stronger bond, and initiatives like this seem very positive to me.
¿Te acuerdas de la primera pieza?
Me acuerdo, la pintamos entre los tres, Deih, Hope y yo, hace ya 25 años aproximadamente, pintamos en una especie de rampa o pendiente, marcamos y rellenamos entre los tres y yo hice los trazos…quedó algo horrible y lleno de chorretones, pero fue muy motivador, y ahí seguimos.
Do you remember the first piece?
I remember, we painted it between the three of us, Deih, Hope and me, about 25 years ago, we painted on a kind of ramp or slope, we marked and filled in between the three of us and I did the strokes…it was something horrible and full of drips, but it was very motivating, and there we went.
¿Cuál es tu crew?
Mi primer crew fue RHB con mis amigos de Mislata donde crecí, y ya más de joven fue la XLF de Valencia, donde había gente muy dispar, que venía de la televisión, de Bellas Artes, del diseño o la fotografía, había compañeros que hacían Stencil, otros tiraban más del dibujo, hicimos muy buen combo de estilos y de amistad. Ahora nos juntamos poco, pero cuando lo hacemos la liamos bien.
What is your crew?
My first crew was RHB with my friends from Mislata where I grew up, and when I was younger it was the XLF in Valencia, where there were very different people, coming from television, Fine Arts, design or photography, there were colleagues who did Stencil, others did more drawing, we made a very good combo of styles and friendship. Now we don’t get together much, but when we do, we make a good mess.
Y para terminar ¿algo que quieras decir?
Sólo decir que la constancia, la humildad y la honestidad son las mejores armas que puedes llevar esta batalla que es el Street Art y a vivir una vida basada en el arte.
